Questions and Tips
The following is a checklist to use when determining which kind of questions to ask regarding Home/Renters and Auto insurance. Also, some tips to follow when making a claim.

Home insurance:
- What is the premium?
- What is the deductible?
What are the limits for the various coverage and are they adequate?
- Can you increase the policy limits if your situation changes? What’s involved?
- Is personal property covered for replacement cost?
- Do you need any special types of coverage either because of where you live or your lifestyle (flood, earthquake, personal injury, liability loss exposures)?
- What do friends say about the company? Do they drop policy holders if they make claims? Do they usually deny a claim before they pay it?
Auto insurance:
- Am I getting all the discounts that my auto insurance offers?
- Do I have comprehensive and collision coverage, and is it worth it?
- Does my policy include uninsured- and underinsured-motorist coverage?
- If my car is totaled, how much will my insurance pay to cover the loss?
- If I need new parts for my car, will my insurer pay for original manufacturer parts?
Tips when making a claim:
- Know your policy.
- Stake your claim quickly.
- Avoid using the word "lawyer".
- Keep a copy of the police report.
- Get an estimate or two.
- Make temporary repairs.
- Document, document, document.
